Time to say goodbye to 2016

It's the 2nd of the new year, that means goodbye to the old and in with the new.
But before the take-down, I wanted to share our inexpensive Brit & Co. inspired alternative christmas tree:

The branches and wooden drummer boys (both pairs at Bouclair), vase (Dollarama), and the assorted ornaments are "Canvas" brand (Canadian tire), and the remainder from Dollarama.
The blue backdrop is our freshly painted, focal wall in Benjamin Moore's Aura brand ultra matte paint in "Hidden Sapphire".

From fresh poinsettias (Home depot), to fur stockings (Reno quincaillerie) and simple garlands (dollarama), the house was warmly lit, we had the perfect festive set up to enjoy with the family.

It was truly a wonderful Christmas with the family. It was the first time we hosted at our new place, and it couldn't have been more amazing, especially having the kids and family sleepover.
We had originally set-up a tee pee for the kids bed, which turned out super cute.

But that idea was soon to be a total fail. Thankfully before the visit we were able to take it down before anyone got hurt. The integrity of the wood pieces was compromised and couldn't hold any slight movement.
We ate super well, the winner of the holiday weekend feast was Dennis' recipe for traditional Filipino "Releyeno", stuffed chicken, as well as his family's treasured Callos, beef tripe in tomato sauce and for dessert Dad's traditional Filipino fruit salad.

For boxing day/birthday celebration the whole family came back for a two day celebration, this time the Carranzas made a homemade Brazilian barbecue on charcoal. To celebrate, for dessert we had an amazingly delicious Dulce de leche log from Lafrenaie bakery.

2016 was a challenging year. We are indeed grateful and blessed to have this second chance and to be surrounded by family and have the continued support by great friends and an amazing team at the MUHC.
We look forward to a prosperous new year of renewed health and memorable moments.

Dennis and I wish all of you a wonderful, healthy and happy 2017!
